The minute the guitar came tearing out of the speakers and the vocals were seared into my eardrums I knew I was witnessing pure aweso-fantasic-radness. I wish there was a word that just summed up the pure energy and perfection of this band, but there isn’t; which is why I had to frankenstein my own word up.
Ya know how people ask you what your favorite band was? Well for the first 19 years of my life I never had an answer. My Morning Jacket is by far, without a doubt my favorite band. So this Monday Herd and all through this week you should check out some of their songs. Starting with: Lowdown(which I am currently listening too while rock’n out TMH.) Mahgeeta, Gideon, Steam, Anytime, What a Wonderful Man, X-mas Curtain, Bermuda Highway, Old Sept Blues, Aluminum Park, and Heartbreakin Man are all some absolutely solid tunes that will make this week 196.34x better. To be honest you should really check out all their songs, but I can’t force ya!
One of the reasons why I love the band is because you can hear that they are meant to be a band. I suppose they could be doing something else like furniture sales, or garbage man, or underwriting; but it just wouldn’t be right……they were meant to rock out and play for hours on end, sweating out music for thousands on stage.
The Herd is the same way. It’s why I love each of them. Tech wasn’t meant to chase a fluffy thing around a track and wear a muzzle. He was meant to be the free spirit he is; running leash-less through the forests and down singletrack as I peddle my brains out and rip up the sweet New-England mt. bike trails. Jake + Joy were meant to run their little doggie brains out and be number one; their competitiveness teeth bearing attitudes only to be hid by their muzzles. It’s who they are and they can’t change it.
They are all purpose built. Just look at their paws, they say it all.
You know when someone is following what they are purposely built for, for humans we are more purposely wired (sans athletes.) You know it because they are freaking amazing at what they are doing, their following their dream. Hunter S. Thompson, Ansel Adams, Sam Adams, Einstein, Snoop Dogg, and Lance Armstrong. All these people are doing/did what they are purposely built for. Now the question is, are you doing what you were purposely built for?
Have a great week!
